What is My Purpose?

What is purpose anyway? Is it your career, your volunteer work, your hobbies? Is it making loads of money or accumulating things? What if your purpose could be simplified? What if your purpose in this life is simply to love yourself and focus on being and doing what feels joyful to you?

I must admit, the first time I heard this concept my mind thought it was too selfish. I grew up believing that my needs came second or usually last. I still have to remind myself of this daily even years later. My monkey mind still tells me that I am unworthy at times and fills me with “have to’s” and “should’s.” Isn’t it time we stopped “shoulding all over ourselves?”

When we love ourselves and truly accept all that we are, we can be more authentic and loving for others. We can let go of resentment and guilt because we are following our hearts. But how do we do this really? How can we practice this when our world shouts that we need to be better, that we are flawed, broken, and we need the next new gimmick or style?

One way I know how to do this is to breathe and feel. Taking time to centre and calm ourselves through meditation or just pausing, breathing and feeling into the moment helps us to tune in to our intuition. Our intuition is based, not in our head, but in our heart and gut. By giving ourselves space to really feel whether a choice is expansive or contracting, we allow our intuition to grow and we become followers of our true passion.

You can’t get it wrong anyway. We are here to experience, love, and heal. It is going to happen for you whether you struggle or whether you follow your joy so why not play and be happy? This is not selfish. It doesn’t mean you run around doing whatever you want without compassion for others. It means we truly love ourselves with the knowledge that we are all connected. We are really the only ones having this experience. What we do to others, we do to ourselves.

In living our loving and authentic truth we pave the way for others to entrain to their truth and feel free to follow their own intuition and passions.

Much Love,

Peace Goddess
